Medical and personal injury claims
If you've been injured or ill the last thing you want is to hear legal jargon. We'll give you straight answers.
For more than 20 years, we’ve given advice and help to people who have suffered personal injury, illness and psychological harm caused by medical accidents and faulty products. We regularly give assistance not only to our own clients, but also to other law firms and their clients.
The impact of ACC allows few New Zealand lawyers to handle this kind of work. We may be the only firm to treat it as a specialist area.
And we also handle individual complaints and claims for people who’ve had medical or hospital accidents, or have suffered institutional abuse.
Here’s a selection of the projects we’re proud to have worked on:
- In the early 1990s we settled claims on behalf of about 30 people who suffered lung diseases caused by industrial exposure to asbestos.
- In 1997 we settled nearly 100 claims by women who suffered serious – in some cases potentially fatal – internal injuries as a result of using the Copper-7 intra-uterine contraceptive device.
- We advised groups of former timber workers suffering from skin and other diseases caused by industrial exposure to toxic timber treatment products.
- We have advised groups of people who have suffered adverse effects from numerous drugs and medical products.
- Between 2000 and 2008 we settled over 200 claims brought by people infected with hepatitis C from contaminated blood transfusions and blood products.
- We recently acted for a group of parents whose children’s organs were retained without their consent by Greenlane Hospital.
- We currently act for around 150 people who suffered abuse as patients in New Zealand psychiatric hospitals and in Child Welfare institutions.
- We also act for people who were abused in orphanages and other institutions run by church organisations.
If you’ve been injured or ill, the last thing you want to hear is legal jargon. We’ll explain things in a way you can understand, and give you no-nonsense advice. We’re here to listen, to help, and to make the process easier for you.
